Beyonce Knowles-Carter stole the spotlight from actor Joaquin Phoenix by refusing to give him a standing ovation at the 2020 Golden Globes Awards on Sunday.
The Internet was shocked when Beyonce remained seated as Phoenix won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role in Joker.
Other well-heeled celebrities stood and cheered for their colleague as he went to the podium to accept his award. But Beyonce remained seated – even as others in the audience stared hard at her.
Beyonce – who was nominated for Best Original Song for “Spirit” from The Lion King – was noticeably upset that she didn’t win – again.
Outrage social media users tweeted that Beyonce was “rude” and “disrespectful.”
One person tweeted:
“@Beyonce You’re a joke for not standing up for Joaquin Phoenix. Understandable to make a statement. But that’s poor sportsmanship for someone that actually deserved recognition. You’re entitled and arrogant. And as an actress you’re a joke. Smh. You ought to apologize to him.”
Beyonce and Jay-Z showed up one hour late for the awards show, and they skipped the red carpet and went straight to their seats.
Question: Did you watch the Golden Globes Awards? What did you think of Beyonce’s behavior?
