Cardi B wasn’t seriously planning to start a campaign to free incarcerated Tiger King star Joe Exotic.
Joe is the subject of the Netflix series, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness. The show follows the exploits of Joe, an eccentric tiger breeder, who ran a popular illegal zoo in Oklahoma.
While fans have taken to social media to rave about the show, rapper Cardi B took to Twitter to express her love and support for Joe after authorities sentenced him to time in prison for plotting to kill an animal rights activist and other wildlife violations.
“Bout to star [sic] a gofundme account for Joe .He shall be free,” she wrote.
As the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker’s comments went viral online, she returned to the site to set the record straight, insisting, “Omg… I was just playing”.
“I do love him tho and he deff needed better representation .oooooooooooooooooo here Kitty Kitty [sic],” she said.
Cardi’s clarification comes after TMZ published a story revealing she wouldn’t be allowed to start a campaign on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe, because the organization doesn’t allow campaigns for convicted criminals.
GoFundMe pulled an account with Cardi’s name attached to it and refunded the $100 it raised. TMZ added the account was not related to Cardi.
A representative from GoFundMe clarified the campaign was removed as money cannot be raised to fund the defense of inmates convicted of violent crimes.
