Lysol cautioned customers not to inject its household cleaning products that are proven to kill the coronavirus.
The parent company of Lysol disinfectant warned customers Friday that its products should not be used internally to kill the Covid-19 virus.
The Lysol label lists the bacteria and viruses it kills, including the human coronavirus.
The warning comes after President Donald Trump noted a recent study that shows the effects of bleach and isopropyl alcohol on the virus and he wondered if doctors could somehow inject it into people safely.
The virus “does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that,” Trump said during Thursday’s White House coronavirus press briefing.
Trump’s remarks prompted the maker of Lysol to issue the warning to combat “recent speculation.”
“As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body,” read the statement.
Trump, who is not medically trained, deferred to medical doctors to define how the disinfectant would be used to kill the virus. At no time did the President imply doctors should inject their patients with household cleaners.
