Russian President Vladimir Puttin sent 60 tons of much needed medical supplies to the United States 2 days after speaking with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The shipment includes ventilators, millions of face masks, and personal protective supplies. U.S. customs agents and other feds were on the ground when the cargo plane landed with boxes touched down at JFK Airport in New York.
The shipment arrived two days after Trump spoke with Putin on the phone about this country’s severe shortage of medical supplies amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Russia is still under sanctions after its interference in the 2016 presidential elections. Separate investigations by a special prosecutor and Congress were unable to find any evidence that Russia helped Trump win the election.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that the U.S. paid for the medical supplies. Still, that didn’t stop critics from bashing Trump.
“Nothing to see here. Just a Russian military aircraft landing at JFK with 60 tons of medical supplies to support America’s #COVID19 response. A propaganda bonanza as our own government shrinks from America’s leadership role in a global crisis,” tweeted Trump critic, Brett McGurk, a former diplomat under Trump and former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
Ben Hodges, a former commanding general of the U.S. Army in Europe, tweeted: “it’s a gift TO the Kremlin, not FROM it.”
