Joe Biden sparked controversy on social media for suggesting that radio host Charlamagne tha god “ain’t Black” if he doesn’t vote for Biden, a Democrat.
Biden suggested that all Black Americans automatically vote for Democrats regardless of their record on civil rights.
Biden, 77, made the remark during a chat with Charlamagne tha god, real name Lenard McKelvey, on the syndicated radio program “The Breakfast Club” on Friday.
Biden’s remark came when he tried to end the interview. “You can’t do that to Black media!” Charlamagne shouted.
“You’ve got more questions?” said Biden, after looking at his watch. “Well, I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden said sarcastically.
“It don’t have nothing to do with Trump, it has to do with the fact — I want something for my community,” Charlamagne replied.
“Take a look at my record, man,” said Biden. “I extended the Voting Rights Act 25 years. I have a record that’s second to none. The NAACP has endorsed me every time I’ve run. Take a look at the record. Anyway, thanks, I will come back.”
