Heading into the warmest part of the year, police and citizens are bracing for what has become an annual uptick in bloodshed, and with Lollapalooza set to begin this weekend, some wonder if the demands of extra police to protect the music festival will leave problem areas in the city wide open for shooters. Last weekend, from 5 p.m. Friday to midnight Sunday, 48 people were shot and eight killed including two mothers who volunteered as activists to stop violence. On Monday, six more were shot. The day after that, Tuesday, 11 more were shot. (Photo by KAMIL KRZACZYNSKI / AFP) (Photo credit should read KAMIL KRZACZYNSKI/AFP via Getty Images)
