Louisiana rapper Hurricane Chris, real name Christoper Dooley Jr., was charged with second-degree murder in connection with a shooting early Friday, according to KTVE.
Dooley, 31, initially told police he shot an armed man in self-defense at a gas station at 1 a.m., but police later determined he made up the story.
The Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Unit arrested Dooley on Friday morning.
The victim had been shot multiple times and died later at a local hospital. Dooley claimed he shot the man in self-defense after an alleged struggle over a vehicle that he claimed was his.
Officers later viewed surveillance video that captured the shooting.
The footage led detectives to believe Dooley was not in fear for his life when he opened fire.
Dooley was 18 when his first single “A Bay Bay” dropped in 2007. It was also his only hit. The song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the rap chart.
