An 11-year-old Atlanta boy was killed in a drive-by shooting near his home on the city’s East Side on Nov. 6.
Tyrell Sims had just returned home after helping his friend’s grandmother put up her Christmas tree when he was shot.
Police identified 2 persons of interest — Antonius Montanez Aziz and Jeremiah Taylor — in connection with the shooting.
Aziz was questioned by police and released. Police are still searching for Taylor.
According to Tyrell’s father, Connie Sims, his son was recording a TikTok video in the front yard with his 12-year-old friend when a black SUV drove slowly down the 1200 block of Bell Avenue in the East Point neighborhood of Atlanta.
The two boys immediately hit the ground when they heard gunshots. The 12-year-old told police he heard bullets whizzing past his head.
When the shooting stopped, Tyrell was laying motionless on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at Grady Hospital.
“The guy came running in and told me, ‘Your son was shot!’ I just started running, jumped in the car, tried to resuscitate him. I tried to bring him back. I believe I did all I could,” Connie Sims told reporters, according to AJC.com.
