A New York man has been arrested and charged with fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of rapper Nicki Minaj’s father.
Robert Maraj was killed as he crossed an intersection in Long Island, NY on Feb. 12, around 6 p.m. local time. He was 64.
Witnesses said a northbound white Volvo station wagon fled the scene of the accident.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Nassau County Police announced the arrest of 70-year-old Charles Polevich of Mineola.
Polevich was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Mineola on Wednesday. His bond was set at $250,000.
Nicki, real name Onika Tanya Maraj, was born in Trinidad and Tobago to Robert and Carol Maraj. Maraj worked as a finance executive and was a part-time gospel singer.
The 38-year-old rapper has not spoken publicly about her father’s death.
