Megan Thee Stallion (pictured) and mom-to-be Cardi B were among the big winners at the 2021 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Megan picked up four trophies, including Best Female Hip Hop Artist and the Viewer’s Choice Award for her Beyonce collaboration “Savage,” while both stars won Best Collaboration and Best Video for “WAP.”
Megan was joined on the red carpet by her significant other, rap producer Pardison “Pardi” Fontaine.
But Cardi grabbed the spotlight by revealing she was expecting her second child during a surprise set with her husband Offset‘s group Migos.
It was also a big night for singer Jazmine Sullivan, right, who took home the Album of the Year prize for “Heaux Tales.” Jazmine posed with rapper Coi LeRay before the show.
Singer H.E.R. was named Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, and Bruno Mars, took home two awards for Video Director and Best Group for his magical collaboration with Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic.
The awards show, hosted by Taraji P. Henson (pictured), featured a record 18 show-stopping performances from the likes of Sullivan, Lil Baby, H.E.R., DJ Khaled, and Lil Nas X, as well as tributes to Lifetime Achievement recipient Queen Latifah and the late DMX.
Queen Latifah was overcome with emotion as she collected her latest honor and accolade.
Holding back tears, the rap pioneer and actress took the stage after Lil’ Kim, Rapsody, MC Lyte and Monie Love delivered a stirring tribute, and had to compose herself before accepting the honor (see video blow).
“I’m so extremely moved I don’t even know what to… I want to thank BET for creating an outlet for beautiful blackness to thrive, to shine. When we couldn’t get played on the radio and other places, we couldn’t get our videos played in other places, there was BET that allowed us to be in our fullness.”
Latifah, a closeted lesbian, also thanked God, her father, Lancelot Owens, Sr., who joined her onstage, and her late mother, stating, “I’ve always celebrated the woman because I was raised by a strong Black woman, and raised by a father who loves women.”
