Comedienne Mo’Nique sparked debate on social media when she recorded a video criticizing Black women for wearing bonnets and house slippers in public.

The mother-of-two was annoyed to see Black women casually wearing hair bonnets, house shoes, head scarves, and blankets at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport.

Black women are flush with cash from stimulus checks, unemployment benefits and PPP loans. Now that airline tickets are at bargain basement prices, Black women roll out of bed and head straight to the airport.

“It took me a minute to say what I’m getting ready to say because I want to make sure I’m not saying it from a place of judgment and that I’m saying it from a place of love,” Mo’Nique said.

“Some of y’all have given me the title of auntie, and I’m honored that y’all do that. But there are times that auntie has to talk to her babies and say some real shit.

“I’ve been seeing it not just at the airport. I’ve been seeing it at the store, at the mall… When did we lose our pride in representing ourselves? When did we slip away of let me make sure I’m presentable when I leave my home?”

Things went from bad to worse when Mo’Nique dissed women for not combing their hair before they get on a plane. She added that women have plenty of hair options, including a Dollar store wig.

“All I’m saying is could you please comb your hair?” she pleaded.

“I’m not saying you don’t have pride but the representation that you’re showing someone will have to ask you to know if you have it. It’s not to get a man … it is just your representation of you, my sweet babies.”

It didn’t take long for men to respond by calling out Mo’Nique for not minding her own business.

Black Twitter defended their moms, sisters and aunties by wearing hair bonnets in their tweets.

“I stand in solidarity with our black Queens wearing bonnets outside,” wrote @kingkeeme on Monday.

“I stand with y’all too – I rock my jumbo bonnet outside with no shame,” another Twitter user responded.

And a third user tweeted: “fashionably tardy..but im here to stand with my queens as well!!”
