A Chicago Police Dept. report confirms late rapper King Von gunned down notorious teenage gangster Gakirah “K.I” Barnes.
King Von, born Dayvon Bennett, was shot and killed outside a lounge in downtown Atlanta on November 6, 2020.
Barnes, 17, reportedly killed more than a dozen people by the time she died in 2014. She allegedly angered King Von by rejecting his advances directly and on social media.
On April 11, 2014, Barnes responded to Von’s messages on Twitter.com. She told him her location and said she was heading to a friend’s house in Woodlawn.
At 3:30 p.m., Barnes was walking with friends when she was shot multiple times on the 6400 block of South Eberhart Avenue. She suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the chest, jaw and neck, according to NBC Chicago.
According to the police report:
“An unknown M/1 wearing a Grey Hoodie and Blue jeans approached the victims. The unknown offender then produced a handgun and began firing in the direction of the victims, striking all three. The unknown offender then was observed entering an unknown vehicle making good his escape… The investigation revealed that the victim was killed by Dayvon BENNETT…. Bennett was positively identified as the offender in the incident.”
However, police did not have enough evidence to charge the aspiring rapper in 2014. He was later charged in an unrelated murder and served time in prison.
