Four people were injured when an apartment complex exploded in Dunwoody, Georgia, on Sunday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
At least four people were injured by flying debris and some suffered burns.
The explosion occurred at the Arrive Perimeter complex at 2000 Asbury Square around 1:20 p.m. Sunday. 911 dispatchers received calls regarding an explosion at the complex at 1:24 p.m.
The explosion leveled at least three apartments, leaving at a least a dozen people homeless.
The Red Cross is helping residents who were displaced by the blast.
DeKalb County Deputy Fire Chief Melvin Carter told reporters the blast had “a tremendous amount of structural damage” to the apartments and the surrounding buildings.
Several agencies are investigating the cause of the explosion, “possibly from a gas leak,” according to Carter.
Dozens of firefighters from the DeKalb County Fire Rescue and the Sandy Springs Fire Department were on the scene.
Neighbors within a half mile of the complex told Channel 2 Action News they heard the explosion.
Eboni Thornton was in a moving truck outside one of the buildings when she heard a loud boom and felt the truck move.
“The leasing office was collapsed on the left side, the double doors were blown out and I could hear a lady screaming her head off.”
CBS46 News spoke with residents who say they smelled gas “for months” at the complex.
However, authorities say there is no confirmed cause of the explosion.
