A DeKalb County, Ga. woman has died a week after she was shot in the head while asleep in her bed.

Herman “Mac” Ellison, the pastor of Temple of Faith Ministries, told police he awoke around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 to find his wife, Lashunda Ellison, breathing heavily. He said he turned her over and noticed she was bleeding from her head. Lashunda Ellison was rushed to a hospital where she died nearly a week later.

She was shot hours after celebrating her 50th birthday. The pastor told a reporter he didn’t hear the gunshot.

“Today October 10, 2022, My wife Lashunda Heath-Ellison gained her wings,” the pastor wrote on his Facebook page. “I believe to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Please give us a moment to process this. My Perfect Angel is gone but forever in our hearts.”

Police believe someone fired a single gunshot from a wooded area behind the couple’s home on Wilkins Court in DeKalb County.

Pastor Ellison fought back tears as he recalled his wife singing the same hymn in church every Sunday.

Ellison and his wife raised their 2 children in their home on Wilkins Court. “I didn’t shoot my wife, and I know my wife wouldn’t shoot herself,” he said.

The pastor said his daughter told him, “Daddy, something is not right.”
