There was an awkward moment between President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris when the Golden States Warriors visited the White House on Tuesday.
VP Harris refused to take a knee with Biden during a photo op with the reigning NBA champions.
“I’m not doing that!” said Harris as the 80-year-old president awkwardly dropped to one knee. Kneeling on one knee was popularized by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick after he was benched by the San Francisco 49ers NFL team in 2016.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr and players Draymond Green and Klay Thompson reached out to catch the frail president when he struggled to stand up.
Earlier, Biden forgot the pronunciation of his vice president’s name – which he pronounced as “CAM-a-la” rather than the correct pronunciation of “comma-la.”
According to DailyMail.com, the name “Kamala” was inspired by her mother’s South Indian heritage. Harris, who is of Indian descent, has repeatedly set the record straight on how to say her name.
In a 2019 memoir, Harris wrote: “[M]y name is pronounced ‘comma-la,’ like the punctuation mark. It means ‘lotus flower,’ which is a symbol of significance in Indian culture.”
