Bennedict Mathurin scored 26 points to lead the Indiana Pacers to a 141-136 win over the New York Knicks on Sunday. The win was a bittersweet end to the Pacers’s season.
A surprise was waiting for Bennedict when he returned home late Sunday. The Pacers shrink-wrapped his car in the team parking lot.
The Pacers posted cell phone video of the wrapped car on social media. The video was captioned:
“last day as the rookie.
the vets had Bennedict Mathurin’s car plastic wrapped when we got back from New York.”
“Man, you okay?” one teammate asked him, while another teammate said, “What happened?”
The young player was a good sport and took the prank in stride.
Bennedict was Indiana’s No. 6 pick in the 2022 NBA draft. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard averaged 16.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in his rookie season.
The Pacers finished the season with 35 wins and 47 losses.
