A biracial woman who can pass for white is criticized on Instagram for saying she’s half Black.
Monica, a.k.a. Summer Bazil on Instagram, is a sun-kissed blonde with green eyes who says she is often criticized by Black women.
She shared photos of her father, a light-skinned Black man, and her mother, a Nordic blonde woman, in an Instagram video.
But Monica’s followers argue that she is simply making a case for reparations in California.
California’s Reparations Task Force on Saturday approved a plan to pay $1.2 million to every Black resident to compensate for race-based discriminatory practices.
The plan must be considered for legislation by California’s lawmakers before checks are distributed to eligible Blacks.
However, mixed race people like Monica may be eligible to collect $1.2 million if the plan is approved by state legislators.
Monica’s followers disagree that she is half Black.
One follower wrote: “Your literally only like 10% black and the white genes colonized your black genes [sic].”
Another person wrote: “People think they understand genetics and they don’t. lol if your dad is black than you’re half black. End of discussion [sic].”
While a third person wrote: “He’s not even blacc [sic].”
