A tech CEO who practiced wokeism may have let her killer into her building because she feared being seen as racist.
Pava LaPere’s body was found half-naked with missing teeth on the rooftop of her apartment building in Baltimore on Monday, Sept. 25.
LaPere — who was listed in Forbes 30 under 30 – was strangled and possibly beaten with a brick.
Detectives found surveillance video that showed LaPere coming home just after 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, and sitting on a couch in the lobby.
A Black male approached the locked front door and waved her over to open it.
“After entering the building, the victim can be seen getting off the couch in the lobby and walking to the front door to a black male,” the affidavit said.
Police identified the male as Jason Dean Billingsley, 32, a felon who was paroled from prison in 2022.
LaPere then “opens the lobby door and began to talk to” the man who waved her over, the affidavit said.
“The victim then let the tall” man “inside the building where they can be seen getting on the elevator together,” according to the affidavit.
The same man was seen an hour later “scrambling for an exit” while wiping his hand on his shorts.
The next day, Baltimore police suspected Billingsley and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Police were criticized for not warning the public about Billingsley, who was wanted for raping a woman in front of her boyfriend and setting them both on fire in their basement apartment on Sept. 19.
Police claim they didn’t issue an arrest warrant for Billingsley because the victims were known to him.
Billingsley was arrested in Bowie, Maryland, on Sept. 27. He is charged with murder, attempted murder and rape.
In 2015, Billingsley was sentenced to 30 years in prison for a first-degree sex offense. He was released last fall for good behavior.
