On Thursday, Oct. 19, a Blind Item mentioned a “multiple Academy Award winning actress who has been separated from her long time husband” since 2019.
Some commenters immediately guessed Meryl Streep was the A-list actress due to the “multiple” Oscar Awards hint. But many commenters didn’t know she was married.
As the Blind Item went viral, Streep’s rep confirmed the rumor in an exclusive statement to Page Six late Friday.
“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” the statement read.
Page Six notes that Streep, 74, was seen wearing her wedding band at an awards show on Friday. Streep and Gummer, a 76-year-old sculptor, were last seen together at the 2018 Oscars.
Streep and Gummer share four children and they have five grandchildren.
When asked in 2002 for the secret to a happy marriage, Streep told Vogue magazine, “Goodwill and willingness to bend — and to shut up every once in a while.”
