Rumors are swirling that former President Donald Trump is considering picking Dr. Ben Carson as his vice president in 2024.

A prominent conservative Twitter/X account fueled the rumors on Thursday that Trump plans to tap Carson, his former Housing secretary, as his 2024 running mate.

@TheCalvinCooli1 claimed a source close to Trump said Dr. Carson is considered the frontrunner for VP. Carson was the only Black member of Trump’s cabinet during his first term in office.

The Twitter/X post sparked a flurry of tweets and speculation by conservative bloggers.

Many Trump supporters called Dr. Carson an “excellent pick” for vice president.

Trump has yet to announce his choice for vice president, but other frontrunners include South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Senator Tim Scott, House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, and former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who is also a presidential candidate.

Trump told NBC News in September, “I like the concept (of a female VP), but we’re going to pick the best person.”

He added that while Kristi Noem was “one of the people I’d consider,” he had a long list of potential picks. Trump also appeared to rule out Sen. Tim Scott as his running mate.

Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican nominee. He leads incumbent President Biden by double digits in most major political polls.
