Rapper OG Maco was taken off life support on Thursday. He died surrounded by his family, Complex.com confirmed on Friday. He was 32.

OG Maco, real name Benedict Ihesiba Jr., was hospitalized in Los Angeles earlier this month after shooting himself in the head. Police sources tell TMZ they responded to a 911 call at 10 am on December 12, after a neighbor heard a gunshot go off inside a home.

Police found Maco inside the house unresponsive. The College Park, Georgia native never regained consciousness. Sources say he shot himself in the eye.

Maco is best known for his 2014 debut single “U Guessed It”, which spawned a remix featuring 2 Chainz.

He was part of XXL magazine’s 2015 annual Freshman Class.

The troubled rapper had at least one prior suicide attempt. He nearly lost an eye in a serious car crash in 2016.

In 2019, he was diagnosed with the flesh-eating disease necrotizing fasciitis, that left part of his face disfigured. He suffered from clinical depression as a result.
