Barack Obama wished his wife Michelle Obama a happy birthday in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. Michelle turned 61 on Jan. 17.
The former president, 63, captioned the post: “Happy birthday to the love of my life, @MichelleObama. You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life’s adventures with you. Love you!”

Michelle retweeted the post with a caption that read: “Love you, honey!”
The birthday greeting – and updated photo – comes amid rumors that Barack and Michelle are headed for a divorce after 33 years of marriage.
Speculation peaked when Michelle, who skipped Jimmy Carter’s funeral, also confirmed she would not attend Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Social media users noted that Michelle hadn’t been seen in public since the November 2024 election. There were rumors that she had fallen ill.
The updated photo shared by the former president did nothing to silence the rumors.
Barack and Michelle are seated at a large table in a wine cellar next to cabinets filled with bottles of wine. Michelle’s hand is balled up in a fist while Barack reaches across the table to touch her fist.
A closer look at Michelle’s face shows swelling around her cheekbones and eyes which are 2 dark pits. Michelle wore a black house dress with a wig and a scarf over the wig. Her left hand is concealed under the table.
The photo caused even more concerns and questions about her health.
The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama told Associated Press this week in a statement, “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.” The office stated Michelle couldn’t attend due to a scheduling conflict.
Michelle Obama has made it very clear that she despises Donald Trump and can’t stand to be around him.
But her absence at Jimmy Carter’s funeral service sparked divorce rumors.
“I’m calling it, the Obamas are getting a divorce,” wrote one person on X.
Another posted: “An Obama divorce would not be on my 2025 predictions but it might happen.”
“[Michelle] and Obama are on the outs. They are getting a divorce. She doesn’t want to be around him,” someone else wrote.
“Sounds like an Obama divorce is on the horizon, we’ve all seen it, they stop attending functions together,” a fourth tweet read.
