Zendaya’s father Kazembe Ajamu Coleman called Tom Holland a liar after the actor claimed he sought permission from Kazembe to propose to Zendaya.
Zendaya and longtime boyfriend Tom got engaged over the holidays. The news of their engagement nearly broke the Internet.
The British actor claimed he sought permission from Zendaya’s father to marry his daughter.
However, in an exclusive phone call with DailyMail.com, Kazembe denied a report that Tom, 28, asked him for his daughter’s hand in marriage before the proposal.
Kazember suggested that Tom conspired with TMZ to spin a manufactured story.
“That was a bunch of crap dealt out by TMZ,” Kazembe said before adding, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
When pressed by a DailyMail.com reporter for more answers, Kazembe refused to comment further.
Tom reportedly popped the question “between Christmas and New Year’s.” The world found out when Zendaya flashed her engagement ring during an appearance at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Zendaya’s 5-carat diamond ring set on a 18k white and yellow gold band is the work of London-based jeweler Jessica McCormack, and estimated to be worth over $200,000.
The actress flashed the ring during an appearance at a Q&A in West Hollywood on Monday. Zendaya made sure everyone saw her ring at the “Challengers” event.
A source told DailyMail.com that the proposal was “sweet and romantic” and that Tom proposed the “old-fashioned way” by going to her father first.
But Zendaya’s father said the story was fake news.
Zendaya is the product of an interracial marriage. She is pictured with her parents, Kazembe Coleman and Claire Stoermer in December 2015.
