Billionaire Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is investigating lawmakers in Congress who became multi-millionaires on government salaries.
In a post on X (Twitter) on Wednesday, the Tesla CEO wrote: “It’s not like these politicians started companies or were NBA All-Stars, so where did they get all the money? Does anyone know?”
An X user listed elected officials in DC who are worth tens of millions of dollars while being paid low 6-figure salaries.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earns $223,000 a year, yet she’s worth $202 million. Sen. Chuck Schumer earns $210,000 a year, yet his net worth is $75 million.

Sen. Mitch McConnell has an annual salary of $200,000 and a net worth of $95 million. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (center) makes $285,000 annually, but she’s worth $67 million.

House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was working as a bartender in New York City the night she was elected to Congress. Now she’s reportedly worth $26 million.
We don’t know what all they have on us
According to a Rassmussen pollster, there are more Google searches for “criminal defense lawyer” in Washington, DC than anywhere else in the country.
House Rep. Maxine Waters, herself a multi-millionaire, is among those panicking in DC. “We don’t know what all they have on us,” she said recently.

In a joint press conference with President Donald Trump on Tuesday, Musk said it is odd that there are lawmakers who “somehow managed to accrue tens of millions of dollars” on government salaries.
He added, “We’re just curious where [the money] came from… The reality is they’re getting wealthy at the taxpayer’s expense.”
