“Beyond the Gates” matriarch Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) dropped a freestyle on Monday’s episode that had everyone talking!
Anita expressed her support for her granddaughter, attorney Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne (played by Arielle Prepetit) who is contemplating suing her own father, attorney Bill Hamilton (played by Timon Kyle Durrett).
In a lighthearted moment, Anita, a former R&B singer, gives Naomi a lesson in rap freestyling.
“Your grandmother is still hip and happening. So get ready because I’m about to get so lit you’re gonna have to put shadow all over it,” Anita told Naomi.
“I think you mean shade,” Naomi corrected Anita.
“Whatever, gimme a beat,” Anita said.
Anita rapped lines like:
“Hey, hey, hey listen up y’all, I’m Anita Dupree / Singing sweet melodies since ’73 / I performed with the best, now I’m living life blessed / Got a family that’s putting me to the test
