A fundraiser to support the family of murder suspect Karmelo Anthony has raised over $147,000 in donations. The 17-year-old straight-A student is accused of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas.

A GoFundMe page to raise money for the Anthony family was removed. The family launched a campaign on GiveSendGo.com.

So far, supporters have donated over $147,000 to the GiveSendGo fundraiser. Anthony’s parents increased the campaign’s goal to $200,000.

Anthony’s parents wrote in the summary, “The narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful. As a family of faith, we are deeply grateful for all of your support during this trying period. Your prayers and assistance mean more to us now more than ever.”

The incident occurred on April 2 at a high school track meet at Kuykendall stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Austin Metcalf, a standout football player at Memorial High School, asked Anthony, a straight-A student at Centennial High School, to leave the Memorial team tent where Anthony had taken shelter from the rain.

Anthony, who is 6′ 1″ and 180 lbs, refused to leave the tent.

A brief scuffle between the 2 teens ended with Anthony stabbing Metcalf in the heart with a butcher knife.

Austin Metcalf took his final breath in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter Metcalf.

Anthony fled the scene but he was quickly captured by police.

The frightened teenager reportedly asked police: “Is he going to be okay?”

He confessed to stabbing Metcalf and he asked cops if the stabbing “could be considered self-defense.”

Anthony told police Metcalf tried to shove him out of the tent. He warned Metcalf, “Touch me again and see what happens.” Witnesses say Anthony reached into a black backpack and pulled out a knife before stabbing Metcalf once in the chest.

The knife was found discarded in the bleachers.

Anthony is being held at the Colin County Jail. His bond is set at $1 million.

His attorney plans to ask a judge to lower Anthony’s bail and release him on house arrest since he is not a flight risk.

A GoFundMe to support the Metcalf family has raised over a quarter of a million dollars.

Metcalf’s father, Jeff Metcalf, told a reporter: “I feel sorry for that individual ’cause he’s now made a mistake that’s gonna cost him.”

The FBI is investigating false social media posts citing a fraudulent autopsy report that claims Metcalf’s cause of death was a drug overdose instead of a stab wound to the heart.

The case has generated national headlines, mainly because Anthony is Black and the victim is White. Anthony’s supporters compare him to Kyle Rittenhouse who was 17 when he gunned down 2 rioters in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2020.

Social media activist Tariq Nasheed referred to Austin Metcalf as “a suspected white supremacist” in a race-baiting post on X (Twitter).

Meanwhile, Metcalf’s supporters complain about the media coverage in comparison to a “hate crime” in which a White male is accused of killing a Black person.

Texas community activist Charleston White blamed violent rap music for the murder.
