The scientific community is calling out a bio company for a stunt involving a wolf that’s been extinct for 13,000 years.

The dire wolves were popularized on HBO’s fantasy TV series “Game of Thrones.”

We learned from the Jurassic Park movies that it is impossible to find enough viable organic DNA to bring prehistoric animals back from extinction.

But one company claimed to do just that with the extinct dire wolf.

The company called Colossal Biosciences claimed to use “deft genetic engineering and ancient DNA” to breed three dire wolves last year.

Two of the baby wolves, born in October, are seen howling in a viral video on Monday. The video was captioned: “You’re hearing the first howl of a dire wolf in over 10,000 years.”

Colossal said they plan to “de-extinct” other prehistoric animals, such as the woolly mammoth and the Tasmanian tiger.

“Ben and Colossal have created magic by bringing these majestic beasts back to our world,” George R.R. Martin said of the dire wolves.

However, other experts disputed the claims.

Zoologist Philip Seddon from the University of Otago in New Zealand explained the animals are simply “genetically modified grey wolves”.

Paleogeneticist Dr Nic Rawlence, also from Otago University, explained that, even if enough dire wolf DNA was discovered, it is too degraded and damaged to biologically copy or clone.

“Ancient DNA is like if you put fresh DNA in a 500 degree oven overnight,” Dr Rawlence told BBC News. “It comes out fragmented – like shards and dust.
