Food Network star Anne Burrell was found unresponsive in the shower of her Brooklyn home on June 17.
Police reported more than 100 pills were found near Burrell’s body inside the bathroom. Police also responded to a 911 call at her address earlier that same morning. Officials did not disclose the reason for the earlier call.
On July 25, a NYC coroner announced her cause of death as “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.”
The coroner listed the manner of death as a suicide. She was 55.
A close friend revealed Burrell struggled with depression and emotional issues. She had been quietly battling drug and alcohol abuse.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Burrell’s family said, “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world.”
Burrell was a beloved chef and instructor who hosted the Food Network show “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef.” She also co-hosted “Worst Cooks in America” and appeared on other shows such as “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.”
Burrell’s final season of “Worst Cooks in America” is set to premiere on July 28 on Food Network.
