Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered an oblique muscle strain during practice Wednesday.
The team announced he won’t play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Shedeur was set to play at least 1 quarter against the Eagles’ starting defense on Saturday.
Shedeur is fighting for a spot on the team. He is currently the number 4 quarterback behind veteran starter Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel, a 3rd round rookie.
The Browns announced Shedeur will not practice on Thursday and he will not play on Saturday.
The injury comes at a bad time. Shedeur impressed NFL fans by completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers in the Browns’ first preseason game.
But his touchdowns came against Carolina’s bench players and rookies – not the starters. His true test of skill would have come on Saturday against Philadelphia’s starting defense.
