Angel Reese missed the Chicago Sky’s final season game on Thursday with a “back injury.” The 23-year-old, 6’3″ forward hasn’t played since she trashed the Sky organization and threw her teammates under the bus in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.
“I’m not settling for the same s– we did this year,” Reese told the Tribune. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.”
She added: “We can’t settle for what we have this year.”
Reese also disparaged injured teammate Courtney Vandersloot, saying she’s “too old” at age 36 to make an impact next season.

Sky head coach Tyler Marsh suspended Angel for the first half of the Sky’s game against Las Vegas Aces on Sunday for making “statements detrimental to the team.”
However, coach Marsh said he expected her to suit up and play in Tuesday’s game against the Aces. But Reese claimed she couldn’t play due to her nagging back injury.
She sat out again on Thursday, Sept. 11, when the Sky took on the NY Liberty in the final season game. The Sky (10-34) were eliminated from the WNBA playoffs for the 2nd straight year.
The last straw for fans and the Sky organization came when Reese sent her security into the stands to fetch a fan wearing a “FREE ANGEL” T-shirt.
The fan sat at courtside near the Sky bench for the rest of the game.

After Thursday’s loss to the Liberty, coach Marsh didn’t inspire confidence that Reese will return next season.
Reese has 2 years left on her rookie contract, but the Sky can trade her if another team will swap an asset for her.
The Chicago Sky selected Reese with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Six other teams passed over her in the draft.
Fans say Angel has been a “cancer” to all of her teams, including the Maryland Terrapins, LSU Tigers and now the Chicago Sky.
In 2024, Reese claimed she took a 2-week break from LSU. But there are reports that head coach Kim Mulkey suspended her for a locker room conflict.

Fans say Reese will likely end up joining her ex-teammate Chennedy Carter in Mexico.
Carter was blackballed from the WNBA after her brutal hit on then-rookie sensation Caitlin Clark in a game against the Indiana Fever in 2024.
