Naomi Osaka of Japan defeated Coco Gauff in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows on Monday, Sept. 1.

It’s the first time that the former No. 1 women’s tennis star has made it to the quarterfinals of any Grand Slam women’s tennis tournament since the Australian Open in 2021.

Pop star Ciara and her children: son Future Zahir, 11, and daughter Sienna, 8, were in the stands as Naomi upset the No. 3 seed, Coco, to advance.

“She seems relaxed out there,” Coco said afterwards. “She forced me to play how I did today. Regardless, whatever form she’s in, she’s always a tough player, and I don’t think anyone takes her for granted.”
