The city of Chicago is under siege by federal agents and National Guard who rappelled from Black Hawk helicopters into housing projects.
Residents described the chaos as US soldiers dragged children out of their beds in the middle of the night.
The enforcement operation began hours after President Trump said cities like Chicago will be used as “training grounds,” by immigration enforcement officials.

On Tuesday night, the thundering sound of Black Hawk choppers were heard over housing projects as soldiers rappelled down into an apartment complex.
The soldiers broke down doors and rushed inside apartments where children slept.

Witnesses said the soldiers smashed furniture and ransacked apartments while dragging dozens of parents and screaming children outside into U-Haul vans.
Local resident Rodrick Johnson told the Chicago Sun-Times that federal officials broke down his door, put him in zip ties, and kept him detained for three hours before letting him go.
“I asked [agents] why they were holding me if I was an American citizen, and they said I had to wait until they looked me up,” Johnson told a reporter. “I asked if they had a warrant, and I asked for a lawyer. They never brought one.”
Another resident said she was briefly detained while immigration officers checked her legal status. “They just treated us like we were nothing,” she told local news station ABC 7 Chicago.
Immigration lawyers warn permanent legal residents who have the 1551 version of the green card, from the 1970s and 1980s. It is still valid and does not need to be renewed.

However, immigration officials will detain you if you don’t look like your picture on the card because it’s too old.
Immigration officials highly recommend replacing your I-551 green card before immigration sweeps begin in your city. Click here for instructions.
