Ja Rule announced he’s going to be a grandfather at age 49. The “Pain is Love” rapper made the emotional announcement during an appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s show.
He explained that his daughter Brittney Atkins is expecting her first child – his first grandchild.
“I’m about to be a grandfather,” he said, as the audience cheered. “That don’t even sound right,” he laughed.
Ja Rule told Sherri how Brittney broke the news to him and his wife of 24 years, Aisha Atkins.
“It was very cute the way she did it. She put the sonogram in a box, and it was a card that said, ‘You are now grandma and grandfather.’ And the sonogram was in the thing. And she said, ‘I got a gift for you guys.’ And we thought it was a real gift — I mean, that is a real gift, don’t get me wrong!”
“So, we go and we open it up, and she got the camera on me to see me and my wifey’s expression,” he continued. “It was an amazing moment.”
When Sherri asked what his new grandchild will call him, Ja Rule said, “I love it when they call me Big Poppa!”

The Queens native shares 3 children with Aisha. He is pictured center with (L-R) Aisha, son Jordan Atkins, daughter Brittney, and son Jeffrey Jr. in a photo dated July 3, 2021.
On Thursday, Brittney took to Instagram, writing. “SURPRISE!!!!! This little bean, is having a little bean. Holding this secret has been so hard but so worth it, momma and daddy can’t wait to meet you. I’ll post more when my belly gets bigger.”
Earlier this year, Ja walked Brittney down the aisle before she exchanged vows with designer Tiki Aitken.
