Jason Whitlock weighed in after colleagues of NFL sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala complained about Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson.
The incident happened during halftime of the Chicago Bears vs Las Vegas Raiders game on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The Chicago Bears trailed the Raiders 9-14 going into halftime.
When Johnson returned to the field, the CBS sideline reporter approached him and seemingly told him he needed to change what he was doing.
Johnson said, “We’re hitting the reset button here at halftime and we’re gonna come back and establish our identity here in the second half.”
That’s when Kinkhabwala said, “You need to change what you’re doing.”
Johnson responded with a smile, “I don’t know, you think so?” He added, “We’re gonna be just fine.”
The Chicago Bears went on to win the game by a score of 25-24. Which means Johnson was correct: his team was going to be “just fine.”
However, social media erupted after the clip went viral. Women were furious that Johnson insulted Kinkhabwala with his “condescending” response.
But male NFL fans say Kinkhabwala stepped over the line by questioning the head coach’s game strategy.
Coach Johnson later said he misunderstood Kinkhabwala.
During a radio interview, Kinkhabwala said she wished she phrased the question better.
Social media users raged on about Johnson’s “aggressive” response to Kinkhabwala.
Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho called Johnson out on X.
“Ben Johnson wouldn’t even let her ask the question, he just kept trying to talk over her,” he wrote.
“I appreciate that, thank you,” Kinkhabwala responded to Acho’s tweet.
It was all too much for outspoken sports analyst Jason Whitlock.
Whitlock retweeted a video of the exchange between Johnson and Kinkhabwala.
He captioned the post: “Let’s all pretend like the real insanity isn’t some woman who knows NOTHING about football questioning a coach on the sideline during a game. Let’s pretend Ben Johnson is the crazy person, not the crazy system that normalized the situation.”
