After the death of her husband, Mike Mora, in 2022, R&B singer Kelis Rogers moved with her three children to a farm in Kenya.

Kelis, 46, shares videos of her days working on her farm in East Africa. She encourages Americans to consider moving to Africa.

“You see it’s progressing,” she said in one video post. “There’s just a lot of stuff happening all the time so it just makes it livable.”

She continued, “The people here are really friendly, they’re just good people.”

She captioned another post:

“My Honest 2cents as an American living in Kenya it’s one thing to come for vacation but it’s different when you live here and experience everyday life. I’m from HARLEM so I’m still a city girl who loves the country. KENYA is the perfect balance for me.”

Life in Kenya takes some adjusting for people used to the American way of life.

“If you want to live here like an American, it’s definitely going to cost you triple the price,” Kelis said.

She plans to purchase 150 to 300 acres of farmland in rural Kenya.

The “Milkshake” singer lost her husband Mike Mora to cancer. They shared 2 sons while living on a farm outside Los Angeles. Kelis also has a son with rapper Nas.

In September 2021, Mike revealed that he had stage IV stomach cancer. He documented his cancer journey in posts on Instagram. He was diagnosed with advanced gastric adenocarcinoma in September 2020 and died on March 14, 2022.
