Xbox President Sarah Bond is facing backlash from the gaming community for raising the price of the next-generation Xbox console to well over $1,200.
Bond defended the price increase. She said the next-gen Xbox will be “premium” and offer a “very high-end, curated experience.”
“You’re starting to see some of the thinking that we have in this handheld, but I don’t want to give it all away,” she told Mashable.
It will be considerably more expensive than the Xbox Series X which starts at $599.99 for the Digital Edition.
The Xbox is a home video game console manufactured by Microsoft. It was originally released on November 15, 2001 in North America.
Bond said the next-gen Xbox console will be a full Windows gaming PC with an Xbox console layered on top.
The next Xbox will be able to play all old console games. But the experience comes with a hefty price.
Days before the news leaked, retail chain Costco announced it removed Xbox consoles from both stores and online. No reason was given other than the move was a “business decision.”
But the gaming community said Costco removed the consoles because of the price increase.
A Manosphere member said Bond was hired simply because she’s a Black female. Others attacked Bond for not being a gamer.
