Kellie Williams is best known for her role on TV sitcom “Family Matters” that aired on ABC from 1989 to 1997. But she forgot that the original Judy was replaced by another actress on the pilot show in 1989.
Kellie and former costar Telma Hopkins rewatched the first two episodes of the TV sitcom on their new podcast, Welcome to the Family.
“Did you remember that Judy was another Judy on the pilot?” Telma asked Kellie, who was only 13 at the time.
“I was so thrown. I was like, Who is that?” Telma continued. “I mean, I recognized her face, but, for some reason, I thought she had just been a guest on the show. I don’t know what I thought, but I certainly didn’t know she was Judy.”
Telma, who played Aunt Rachel, referenced Valerie Jones, the original actress who played younger Winslow daughter Judy. Valerie was replaced by Jaimee Foxworth.
Kellie, who played Judy’s older sister Laura Winslow, didn’t remember that the young actress had been replaced.
“This is one of the things that I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t remember until I watched the episode,” Kellie said.
Jaimee was eventually written off the show in the fourth season, and her character disappeared altogether.
Telma and Kellie also remembered twin baby actors, Joseph and Julius Wright, who played Richie, were replaced by Bryton James in season 2.
Kellie said the twins “got fired at 14 months.”
“What kind of business are we in?” Telma joked. “And then a 3-year-old shows up. Now, we haven’t aged, but all of a sudden, my son is three years old. That was so funny to me, I was like, Wait a minute, he don’t look like the last baby.”
