Former First Lady Michelle Obama and her husband, Barack Obama, were supposed to meet with Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner on the day they died.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Michelle said that she and Barack were scheduled to see the Reiners on Sunday.

“We’ve known them for many, many years, and we were supposed to be seeing them that night, last night,” Michelle said.
The Reiners were killed by their 32-year-old son Nick Reiner as they slept in their bed early Sunday, December 14.

Their bodies were found by their daughter, Romy Reiner, in their Brentwood home.
Nick is being held in jail without bond. He did not appear in court as scheduled on Tuesday, Dec. 16. His lawyer, Alan Jackson, said Nick was not “medically cleared” to be transferred from jail to the courthouse.

Nick (pictured with Rob in 2016) struggled with drug abuse and homelessness over the years. He cycled in and out of drug rehab for most of his adult life.
After the news of the Reiners’ deaths, Barack released a statement on X (Twitter), writing, “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen.”
If convicted of double homicide, Nick could face the death penalty or life in prison.
