Chicago police suspect that missing CPS school teacher Linda Kathleen Brown may have taken her own life.
Her family said her blue Honda Civic was found parked near the pedestrian bridge to the lakefront at 35th Street and Lake Park Avenue early Thursday.
CBS News Chicago reports that police obtained video of Brown arriving at 35th and Lake Park in her car, getting out, walking over the pedestrian bridge to the lakefront, and not returning to her vehicle.
Her family viewed the video and confirmed it was Brown. She is alone in the footage, which was recorded around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police and family members searched the lakefront on Thursday.
Brown, 53, vanished on her way to an acupuncture appointment in Wicker Park on Saturday, January 3.
Her distraught husband, Antwon Brown, told police he last saw his wife in bed next to him on Friday night. He said she was gone when he woke up on Saturday morning.
“She was in the bed when I went upstairs, everything was fine, don’t know when she got up,” he said.
“Next morning I woke up, it was like 8:35 a.m., and she was gone. No sign of her. I thought she went to acupuncture because she goes to acupuncture on Saturdays, and she don’t miss it unless it’s something important and she has to cancel,” he said.
Brown was scheduled to return to work Monday following a leave of absence for mental health treatment, he said.
As the start of school approached, her anxiety and panic attacks worsened, he said.
Brown teaches at Robert Healy Elementary School in Bridgeport. The School’s principal, Erin Kamradt, notified families of her disappearance.
“I am terrified,” Antwon told NBC5. “I am just shaking. I need my wife home.”
“I’m broke down, I don’t know what to do. I’ve done everything. I’m talking to people; we got people searching for her, I’m out of options. I don’t know what to do,” he told FOX Chicago.
Antwon and Linda Brown have been married 11 years. They lived quietly in a Bronzeville townhouse.
“She’s a wonderful person. Like I said, outgoing, smart, you know, funny.”
Linda Brown is described as 5-feet-7, weighing between 130 and 140 pounds, with brown eyes and hair and a light-skinned complexion.
