Outspoken Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett rebuked rapper Nicki Minaj for consorting with the enemy (in her mind).
Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett (a Democrat) criticized Nicki in a recent rant, accusing her of “selling out” to President Donald Trump and the conservative movement.
“I just don’t do sellouts, especially in this moment,” Crockett told TMZ during a street interview on Tuesday, Feb. 3. “Things are too serious. There are too many people that are being harmed.”
Crockett said she’s always been a Cardi B stan. She insists Nicki is a “sellout” for cozying up to the Trump administration when she’s an immigrant just like the people Trump deports daily.
Crockett said:
“I don’t know if it’s because she’s looking for some [immigration] papers for people, or if she’s looking for them other [pardon] papers. ‘Cause I hear she got family members that’s got a little, you know, a few little issues, right? Maybe she need those other papers, ’cause [Trump] love to hand those out – usually at a cost.”
When asked if people can divorce the art from the artist, Crockett said people are able to do that – but she’s not one of them. She doesn’t want to put money in Nicki’s pocket by supporting her music or the platform Nicki uses to espouse her political beliefs that Crockett doesn’t approve of.
The Texas Rep. also didn’t approve of Nicki attending Erika Kirk’s Turning Point USA event in December.
TMZ notes that Nicki isn’t included in Turning Point USA’s Super Bowl Halftime show to take the spotlight away from Bad Bunny’s official Super Bowl Halftime show on Sunday, Feb. 8.
Crockett thinks she knows why Nicki isn’t performing during TPUSA’s Halftime show.
“She may now understand her place…” she said.
