Over 58,000 home pregnancy tests were recalled after women reported getting false positive results.
The manufacturer of the Clear & Simple digital brand recalled the tests that are distributed in the UK after a “small number” of women reported false positives.
UK health officials advised women to check and see if they bought the Clear & Simple brand of pregnancy tests.
The tests will be refunded at point of purchase or women can mail the tests back to the manufacturer in exchange for a new test.
“Patient safety is our highest priority, said Dr. Duncan McPherson, clinical director at a regulatory agency. “We strongly encourage anyone to report any issues with this product.”
They also encouraged women to look for alternate ways to test pregnancy in the meantime, according to PEOPLE.
Pregnancy tests work by deleting the presence of the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone in urine. HCG nourishes the fertilized egg after it implants in the uterine wall. Levels of hCG can be detected in urine within 2 weeks after pregnancy.
