The gunman involved in a mass shooting at a small community college in Oregon was shot dead by police Fox News reports. The shooter was described as a male in his late 20s.
13 students are reported dead and 20 injured following the shooting rampage at Umpqua Community College in west Oregon.
The shooting started at about 1:45 p.m. ET in Snyder Hall, according to a FOX News source. As many as 30 shots were fired by the unidentified gunman. The shooting was confined to a single classroom.
Injured victims were taken to several area hospitals. Six life flight helicopters were sent to the scene. 2 critically injured students were airlifted to a trauma center.
The community college is about 6 miles south of Roseburg, OR. The campus of 3,000 students has been locked down. Many of the students were bused to the Douglas County Fairgrounds where they were reunited with their families.
Oregon Sheriff reported there was “no more threat” to students and residents.
“The community is in shock at this time,” Senator Jeffrey Kruse told Fox News.
Umpqua Community College is a “gun-free zone”, Fox News reports.
