LeBron James

LeBron James issued a sincere apology to Australian golfer Jason Day‘s wife, Ellie Day, after he collided into her on the sideline while diving for a loose ball.

The collision happened late in the 4th quarter of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 104-100 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.

Ellie Day was seated at courtside with her U.S. PGA champion golfer husband when James dived headlong into while chasing the ball. James was able to keep the ball inbounds but all of his 6′-8″ 250 pound frame landed on Ellie, flipping her and her chair over.

Ellie lay on the floor for several minutes while the team doctor tended to her. A decision was made out of an abundance of caution to transport her to a hospital.

Ellie was fitted with a neck brace, placed on a backboard and carried out of the arena to a small smattering of applause from Cavaliers fans.

“Ellie Day I hope you’re doing okay! My apologies! Hope u guys come back to another game soon. Love LJ!” James tweeted after the game.

James told reporters Ellie Day was doing fine. She was released from the hospital early Friday morning.

“The guys told us she’s doing great now,” he told reporters.

When asked if fans should not be allowed to sit so close to the action, James said he thought the court side seats were “a great experience” for fans.

“I mean that doesn’t happen much. It’s unfortunate it happened tonight but that doesn’t happen much,” he said.

“If I was a fan, which I am a fan of the game but I would love to sit courtside and watch games,” he added.
