A motorist who shot and killed former NY Jets running back Joe McKnight during a road rage incident will not be charged.
According to the NY Post, Ronald Gasser, 54, who shot and killed McKnight, 28, was released from police custody early Friday.
The road rage incident happened outside New Orleans, LA. on Thursday afternoon. Gasser was arrested and released “sometime overnight,” according to gossip tabloid TMZ.com.
Apparently investigators bought Gasser’s explanation that, as a white man, he feared for his life when confronted by an unarmed black man.
A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s spokesperson told TMZ that Gasser “definitely” shot McKnight, but there are “questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it.”
Officials say McKnight was unharmed and standing outside his vehicle when Gasser shot him multiple times.
