The 20-year-old Brooklyn man who raped and strangled Karina Vetrano once said he wanted to stab every girl at his high school.
Lewis was arrested on Saturday and charged with murdering Vetrano, 30, as she jogged in a park near Howard Beach, NY on Aug. 2.
Chanel Lewis was only 15 years old when he revealed his murderous fantasies to a teacher’s aide at Martin De Porres High School, an alternative school for emotionally troubled youngsters.
“What happens if I bring a knife to school?” he reportedly told the teacher on May 17, 2011.
The school notified the police, who did not arrest Lewis, but documented him as an “emotionally disturbed person,” sources told the NY Post.
A school official said Lewis had no disciplinary record or made specific threats against any students.
Lewis lived with his single mother, his 2 sisters and their girl children. He was surrounded by women with no male figure to balance out the Estrogen-dominated household.
His father, Richard Lewis, a 70-year-old retired school principal, apparently didn’t spend quality time with his son.
Lewis’ half-sister, Theresa Forbes, 36, insists he didn’t hate women. “He has nieces, and he played with them,” Forbes told reporters.
Lewis told police he was in a bad mood as he walked from his Brooklyn home to get something to eat in nearby Howard Beach.
He said he saw Vetrano running on a trail inside Spring Creek Park, and he snapped.
He punched her and dragged her off the path into tall weeds where he attacked her. Vetrano fought for her life, losing a tooth in the struggle.
Police say Vetrano may have bitten her attacker. Several of her teeth were cracked.
Investigators linked Lewis to DNA found under Vetrano’s fingernails after he submitted a DNA sample on Feb. 2.
A judge ordered Lewis held without bail Sunday night at his arraignment hearing.
20 members of Vetrano’s family crowded into the courtroom for the hearing.
