Sean Spicer is the latest casualty of the Trump administration. According to multiple reports, Spicer tendered his resignation as the White House press secretary on Friday.
Spicer garnered high ratings for cable news channels when he conducted daily press briefings. But the White House ended the daily briefings due to the growing anti-Trump hostility from the news media.
The 44-year-old New York native was an integral part of President Trump’s campaign. Spicer will be replaced by his assistant press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who frequently substituted for Spicer at the podium in the past.
Trump reportedly hired his close friend Anthony Scaramucci, a former Fox News contributor and Republican donor, as the new White House Communications Director.
Spicer reportedly resigned because he objected to Scaramucci’s appointment as communications director. The two men do not get along.
Scaramucci, pictured left, is expected to run the White House communications department with an iron fist.
The news comes as President Trump lashed out at his Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from the investigation into alleged collusion between Trump and the Russians.
Trump said he would not have appointed Sessions as AG if he knew Sessions would recuse himself.
There are reports that Trump didn’t inform his closest advisors of Spicer’s resignation. Most notably he didn’t inform his Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, a close friend of Spicer’s.
Rumors are running rampant that Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, a close friend of Spicer’s, and Jeff Sessions are next on Trump’s chopping block.
Spicer previously held the position as former communications director for the Republican National Committee and he worked as U.S. Trade Representative for former President George W. Bush.
