City Girls member JT, pictured left with Yung Miami, will have to wait a little while longer to act up outside prison walls. A Tallahassee judge shut down Jatavia “JT” Johnson’s motion to leave prison early.
The 26-year-old Miami rapper was sentenced to serve 24 months in prison last year for credit card fraud and felony ID theft.
Since her incarceration, the duo’s popularity has grown exponentially, thanks to the profanity-laced track “Act Up”, performed by City Girls member Yung Miami, right, who instructs young women to rob and take advantage of wealthy men.
JT began serving her sentence on June 25, 2018 in a Tallahassee, Florida prison.
The City Girls are signed to Pierre “Pee” Thomas’ Quality Control Records.
Her lawyer filed a motion to free JT three months early so she could transition into a halfway house.
The rapper’s lawyer used the City Girls’s fame as an incentive for JT to stay on the straight and narrow when she gets out.
The lawyer argued that JT is “one of two girls that make up the rap duo City Girls…” who “became a force in the music industry. They have grown an intense fan base and have developed relationships with the elite of the elite.”
He added that the judge “will never hear from this Defendant regarding any type of crime, much less an economic one. Granting this recommendation will allow the Defendant to get back to the studio where she belongs.”
But the judge swiftly denied the motion, leaving the decision up to the bureau of prisons.
Maybe the song’s vulgar lyrics influenced the judge to deny JT’s request for early release?
