In a pitiful public outburst designed to garner attention and sympathy, singer Jazmine Sullivan abruptly “announced” her departure from the music business last night on Twitter.com — only to take back her announcement a mere 20 minutes later.
With tweets about Ciara and Keri Hilson (not to mention Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj) dominating our timelines, it’s no wonder that other narcissistic celebrities feel a little left out.
Sullivan, who is often confused for singer Chrisette Michele, probably noted that her new album wasn’t moving units and her Twitter timeline was too quiet.
The 23-year-old Philly native took to her Twitter page and tweeted:
“i’m making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music. i’m trying to figure out who i am… w/out a mike, paper or pen. i promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore i wouldn’t do it. and here i am.”
But it was her next tweet to her thousands of Twitter followers that was most telling:
“i love u all and appreciate u soooooo much,” she added. “…u have no idea how much u’ve inspired me and fed my ego.”
At least she’s honest about Twitter feeding her ego. Other narcissistic celebrities would never admit that much.
These days, attention-hungry celebrities such as Sullivan are bypassing their publicists to feed their crushing egos by creating their own instant rumors on social networks.
The result is posts like this one, with her name in the headline, which never would have been written had she not taken matters into her own hands.
Sullivan’s sophomore album Love Me Back quietly debuted at #17 on the Billboard chart in November, selling a disappointing 57,000 copies in the first week. The disc sold roughly 8,000 units less than her debut CD, Fearless, which dropped in 2008. Fearless spawned Sullivan’s top-ten hits “Bust Your Windows” and “Lions, Tigers & Bears”.
Love Me Back is the bomb . com and the prime example why cd sales don’t impress me. I wish her well and prays she finds what it is she is looking for. #teamJazmine great voice and musical talent
Good Morning
Good Morning and Happy New Year!!
¿¿¿
???
Ne Ne?
can somebody tell these sisters talent will get you NO WHERE in the industry !!! sad though i thought her voice was dope (old school for tight)
Happy New Year Everyone….
Jaz is a great artist and her type of music will never garner sales that rival Keri and Beyonce. She is very talented in so many ways and her voice is amazing. Sophomore albums usually don’t have impressive sales anyways but she has got to understand that her music holds sooooo much more weight than most songs on the radio right now!
I love me some Jazzmine Sullivan, if in front of the mic dont work for her she’s a great writer should be Eatin for years off of Monica’s CD she did some writing on that.
I absolutely love her voice! Of course you won’t get much attention if you’re not lingerie-clad on stage or you’re not traipsing around in fishnet stockings with no pants nor underwear on in public. She doesn’t seem risque and sadly that is what seems to sell these days; she is not merited on what should truly count, talent.
First off HAPPY NEW YEAR YALL… Second Sandra is 2 funny :Sullivan’s sophomore album Love Me Back QUIETLY debuted at #17 on the Billboard chart in November, selling a disappointing 57,000 copies in the first week.
Daprinceofradio:If i can recall CIARA sold 37,500 and soulja boy sold 13,750 in their first week. Jazmine out sold those 2 put together and there bigger “STARS” than her. So do not say 57,000 is a disappointment. Her promotion team lacked promotion and Radio spins are not that high. So, with that said her album QUIETLY debuted @ 17 because of her LABEL. The quietly debuted part is just 2 funny 2 me though lol. Like her album snuck on the charts by accident!
I wish her the best but I hated her single. She needs to release a solid second single maybe her sales will increase.
is that mean??? ***runs and jumps on mean**
I read the timeline and it didn’t read exactly like that but of course this story got the SR spin. Ain’t nothing changed in 2011. It’s basically the S.O.S. on SRose.
With tweets about Ciara and Keri Hilson (not to mention Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj) dominating our timelines, it’s no wonder that other narcissistic celebrities feel a little left out.

Don’t people volunatrily follow celebrities? They donn’t have to necessarily
I love jaz style!!! She will be just fine smh at SR always spinning stories to fit her bipolar needs.
I read her twitter page last night and it didn’t really go in that order but whatever I completely understand where she is coming from no one has really recognized her as true talent yet which she is and she just got a dose of the really music industry and she probably needs a time for herself. She isn’t a beyonce or ciara or Miss keri baby she has to work ten times harder then they do and she still wouldn’t be at the top in the music industry.
How dare she think that talent will actually sell albums, I mean come on son.
How dare she think that she would have control over her writing and what is put out with her name on it. Big dummy.
Is that LAKER? Hey bew……
@MEAN NUN MUCH **plays in ur hair** JUST BEEN MISSIG UR PURRTY SEXY AZZ
No the industry standard/requirement for a successful album is to be as light as Beyonce and as THIN as Ciara. Jazmine is none of the above and her talent is brushed under the rug
CARIBLIFE is so right.
I love Jazmine Sullivan. Her voice, to me, is unique, and I can always relate to her songs. But everyone is right, it takes more that just a talented voice to be noticed in this day and age.
The album is good. sales don’t = quality

Taylor Swift anyone?
@Yso lol she is country singer. Those people go hard for their artist. I think I’ve listened to two of her songs.
So for us that don’t follow these celebs on Twitter……WHAT’S THE REAL STORY???
@Therapist
I haven’t even done that much…I did happen to hear her “sing” once live though…Guess country fans gotta spend their money on something other than Confederate flags, moonshine and varmint guns.
I absolutely LOVE Jazmine Sullivan. Her voice is amazing! She may not be that popular but she can sing more than half of these girls under the table. #TeamJazmine
@Sandra, I really thought you liked Jazmine? When she first came out you had nothing but good things to say about her. What changed?
i think it is deeper then low album sales. If that was the case then Ciara should have quit music also. People need to get off these numbers thing. It gets on my nerves. I remember when when numbers never played a part in buying plain old good music because that person could sing. I guest Jazmine does not meet the “selling sex” quota smh I hope she doesn’t leave the music business we need her. I am tired of these chicks sound like shyt!! i am a little pissed off right now.
Jazz is starting to feel the pressure of NOT selling out(her soul)
FUG WHAT YA HEARD-HER ALBUM IS THE HEAT FROM BEGINNING TO THE END TRUE R&B STYLE, REMINISCENT OF MARY J
FIRST ALBUM ALSO OFF THE CHAIN-TRUE FAN FOREVER!
SMEAR HER NAME I COULD CARE LESS, ANYTHING SHE PUT OUT I’M BUYING..
She doesn’t fit the industry standard….thats just the bottom line. How the hell somebody like Ashanti, and Ciara ever moved more units than this girl at one time in their career. Their voices can’t even be compared to Jazmine’s but even her first album did bad numbers???? This “shyt iz for the BirDS”….who could blame her for chunking up the dueces.
Look how good music sounds when you collab with people who have actual talent. “Aston Martin Music” One of the best songz Rick Ross ever dropped and Christette is a BIG part of the reason….Ciara, Keri, nor Rhianna could have sANg that hook like Chris did…but they are usually the females rappers go to for hooks etc…everything now a days is about LOOKS, talent doesn’t matter. Get out and go INDY Jaz, do your own thing like Bobby Valentino….that major record deal will only put you in debt and leave you bind to a contract..you probably don’t even want anymore.
HEY SR FAM…HAPPY NEW YEAR *MUAAAaaaaaHHH* everybody!!! Especially my BIzhessssss!! *Meanz included*
*couldn’t have*
*binded*
#SMH
I TOTALLY agree with Jasmine for her decision to leave the music industry and it has nothing to do with her being a narcissist / wanting sympathy, as any one with common sense knows if you put in 200% only to see the next put in 50% and get ALL the praise, All the radio spins, ALL the awards, ALL the recognition, ALL the attention, etc. then a human being you are going to get frustrated PERIOD
I like some of jazmine’s songs, but I’ve never heard her being compared to Chrisette Michele…Are you serious? Jazmine can blow, but like the “neighborhood girl that won all the talent shows” good. Chrisette to me is Born with it, trained it to perfection and unstoppable with it. I hope Jaz finds her reason for singing and if it wasn’t because she LOVES it, then she shouldn’t do it. True artists dont do it for fame, they do it because they love it.
Ok since I am an artist I will offer my small opinion on this. The reason Jazmine isnt doing well sales wise is because she can’t be put into a mold. Jaz has a soulful voice. However it cant really be packaged. The production on most of her music DOESNOT match her voice. Her voice is soulful yet she is constantly releasing more urbanized music. Which DOESNOT sell records. IE (white folks aren’t buying it.) To make it in the game you have to package well and Jaz doesnt. Plus she is on the same label as the big money maker A. Keys… J Records they are NOTORIOUS for putting artists on the back burner for her. (Im not throwing shade. Is just what it is)
So combine those facts with her refusal her really branch out for better production to match her writing skill and voice she is stuck at one..
Once or If Jaz becomes more marketable to white consumers then you’ll see her “blow up” But that will come with great sacrifice to the core of who Jazmine is… Think Im lying look at A.Keys from the first album till now…..

@ phoenixlediva: I
and notarize everything you said.
