R&B singer Usher has joined the fight against the spread of malaria in Africa. Usher signed on to fight malaria in Africa by teaming up with the United Nations Foundation to launch the Nothing But Nets campaign. Actor Ashton Kutcher brought attention to the Nothing But Nets campaign with his highly publicized race against CNN for 1,000,000 Twitter followers.
The Nothing But Nets campaign hopes to raise enough money to purchase nets to help prevent African children from catching the deadly disease, which is spread by mosquito bites. The Foundation also hopes to encourage underprivileged youths to take part in this global effort.
Usher says,
“I am proud to be a part of an exciting partnership with the United Nations Foundation and its Nothing But Nets campaign. This initiative sends an important message: youth, regardless of their backgrounds, can make a difference in this world by taking action through service to save lives. Anyone can make a difference. All it takes is $10 to send a net and save a life.”
Can we get a medical minute on malaria, Sandra?
^^^ A Medical Minute on malaria is not necessary because you don’t have to worry about that here in the U.S.
Good for him! Love to see a black man doing some positive.
HMMMMMMMMMM first a negative post and now a positive post… did your bff ToTo send you a tweet to be nice to her boo ?
LOL @ teecee
Sandra you know this is so focking ridiculous. So sick of these celebs. We don’t use mosquito nets anymore in Africa. Even the poorest have to use fans alike anyone else!! I haven’t seen a net in 20 years. Nets or not, the mosquitoes still bite us and you can’t avoid Plasmodium! (Malaria)
Sandra, do that medical minute. Though you may not need to in the U.S, see how these Canadians are coming home in numbers with it. People in Toronto hop to the Carribean and Haiti all winter and come back sick. You know I am a Pharmacist too aside from being a medical reporter and music blogger. Many Americans need to know that they need the meds (Lariam) 2 weeks before travel and 2 weeks after they come back and one pill a week while you are in Africa, Carribean, South America. Remember what happened to Diddy when he went to my country Nigeria in 2007? He came back very sick. HE had Malaria. It’s worse than the Flu. I guess I did the medical minute.
