In Britian, a new Crimestoppers campaign called “Too much bling? Give us a ring” is encouraging citizens to call police at the first sight of anyone wearing too much bling without any visible means of support.

I wholeheartedly agree, and I think the police here should adopt the same practice on this side of the Atlantic.

Here in the A, a young cat wearing too much jewelry most likely obtained it through less than honorable means. They all can’t be rappers or professional ball players standing around flossing down there on Cleveland Ave.

Yes, an innocent CPA wearing legitimately earned bling might get caught in the dragnet. But that’s a chance the police have to take to catch the crooks who brazenly display the spoils of their criminal activity around their necks.

In Britain, the cops haul them in and sort it all out later.

In the latest example of innovative policing in Britain, the Gloucestershire force is encouraging members of the public to report people wearing too much ‘bling’ during the recession.

They are also urging people to shop anyone who drives flashy cars or buys expensive items without the apparent means to afford them during the credit crunch.

The campaign, run with Crimestoppers, was launched by the force today under the title ‘Too Much Bling? Give Us a Ring’ with the aim of cracking down on those who live a lavish lifestyle on the profits of crime
